Hunting Goshawk

Location:  Chinese Turkestan, Xinjiang Province

This “Falconeer” saw our jeeps parked in a small settlement on the edge of the Lop Nur desert.  In keeping with local custom, we gave him a lift – his prized goshawk perched calmly on his leather glove in the front seat of the jeep for most of a day.
